Tate St Ives
Overlooking Porthmeor Beach, Tate St Ives displays the best of international modern and contemporary art...
It was opened in 1993 to celebrate the modernist legacy of the town’s international artists’ colony. The gallery offers a lively programme that embraces the best of international modern and contemporary art, presenting temporary exhibitions, special commissions and works from the Tate Collection.
Tate St Ives also manages the Barbara Hepworth Museum and Sculpture Garden, which gives a remarkable insight into the work and outlook of one of Britain's most important 20th century sculptors.
Tate St Ives Project
The Tate St Ives Project will expand, improve and transform the gallery. Construction work on the extension site is due to start during April 2015. Throughout summer, the site will be busy as the new gallery and pavilion begin to take shape.
In the existing gallery building, structural work will be undertaken from early October 2015 for the construction of the new Learning Suite in the Courtyard and Café Terrace. This will involve major demolition and construction works and this work will take place over the winter and spring months. The gallery will temporarily close on Monday 5 October 2015 and reopen for the summer season 2016. The Tate St Ives project will be completed in 2017.
